Product FAQs

Where can I find ingredient and nutritional information?

You can find ingredients lists, nutrition labels, and allergen information here.

I have a major nut allergy. Is Jeni's safe for me?

We make every flavor in a kitchen that also produces products that contain milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, and wheat. But we follow good manufacturing processes and organize our production days to go from the least amount of allergens to most, and always wash, rinse, and sanitize equipment between each flavor.

How much alcohol is in Cherry Lambic Sorbet (and other flavors made with alcohol)? Is a flavor with alcohol safe for my child to eat?

The alcohol in any of our flavors tops out at about 0.5% or less per volume, which is a miniscule, trace amount. The alcohol from any beer, wine, and spirit we use to make a flavor is not burned off during production. Alcohol lends a distinct flavor to several of our signature flavors, and especially in sorbets, it prevents ice crystals from forming, creating a smoother texture. Is a flavor safe for a child to eat? We leave that entirely up to each parent to decide.

I love Backyard Mint and Dark Chocolate Peppermint. Why aren't they available all year?

Those—and other perennial flavors—are on the menu only during certain times of the year. Unlike mainstays such as Salty Caramel, Ndali Estate Vanilla Bean and others on the menu all year, Backyard Mint, Dark Chocolate Peppermint and the like reflect specific seasonal ingredients, moods, and traditions.

Do you have gluten-free flavors?

Many of our ice creams, frozen yogurts, sorbets, ice cream sandwiches, and toppings are gluten-free. You can see the full list here.

Do you have vegan flavors?

Our Cherry Lambic and Riesling Poached Pear sorbets are vegan. They are made with the same bone char-free sugar we use to make our ice creams and frozen yogurts.

Do you use gelatin in your marshmallows?

Yes. Our gelatin is derived from kosher beef.

Are any of your flavors sugar-free?

No, sorry.

Are your ice creams Kosher?

No, sorry.

Where does your milk come from?

From cows that graze grass on small family farms within 200 miles of our kitchen in Columbus, Ohio.

What does "biodynamic" mean in the context of biodynamic yogurt?

Biodynamic farming is organic farming taken to the next level. It’s based on a spiritual-ethical-ecological approach to agriculture, food production, and nutrition. Both biodynamic and organic farmers use no synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides. Both practices require official certification.

But biodynamic farming—unlike organic farming—is self-contained, self-sustaining, full-circle farming. A biodynamic farm uses no outside soil, manure, plant matter, or anything else to grow crops and raise animals. Soil preparations are made from fermented manure, minerals, and herbs from the farm itself. Biodynamic farmers take into account astronomical cycles when planting, harvesting, milking ,etc. That, advocates believe, helps nurture good mojo for the plants, animals, farmers themselves, and their customers. Most important, the nutrition and flavor levels of the crops and animal products such as yogurt, say advocates, is said to be of the highest-possible degree.

Biodynamics originated during the early 1920s, predating organic farming. It’s based on the progressive agrarian ideas of Austrian writer/educator/social activist Dr. Rudolf Steiner.

The yogurt we use in all of our frozen yogurt flavors is from our friends’ 350-acre Seven Stars Farm, in Pennsylvania. Because Seven Stars uses organic milk to round out their yogurt, the yogurt they produce technically is certified organic yogurt, not biodynamic. But since they make it on a certified biodynamic farm, we refer to the yogurt as biodynamic organic yogurt.

Do you use Fair-Trade-Certified ingredients?

Yes—two of our main ingredients: African cocoa powder and vanilla. Our cocoa powder is from the Ivory Coast and our vanilla is from Ndali Estate in Uganda.

How do I know which flavors a scoop shop carries?

On each scoop shop page, you can find an updated list of what they’re scooping!

Where can I buy Jeni's cookbooks?

Jeni’s cookbooks are available for purchase at local bookstores, our scoop shops, and at online retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, IndieBound, etc.

Autographed copies are always available here.

How do I know which flavors the local grocery carries?

Since each store’s frozen foods manager orders different stock, flavors vary from store to store. If you must know exactly which flavors are on the shelves, please call the store before making a special trip.

My local grocery doesn't carry Jeni's. How can I change this?

Make a request to a store manager or customer service clerk, and feel free to let us know that you want a certain store to carry our pints: (614) 488-3224.

My local grocery doesn't carry my favorite Jeni's flavors. How can I change this?

Each frozen foods manager orders different flavors, so if you don’t see your favorites in the freezer, make a request at the store. Not all of our flavors you see online or in our shops are always available to our retail partners, but many are. It never hurts to ask the store to order your favorites.

What is an Indie?

A 6-oz., single-serve cup of ice cream available for special events in these flavors: Salty Caramel, Dark Chocolate, The Buckeye State, and Lemon Frozen Yogurt.

How long after I open a pint is the ice cream still good to eat?

It’s best to eat the ice cream within two weeks after you’ve opened the pint. Pro move: putting a piece of wax paper against the ice cream in an opened pint prevents an icy layer from forming atop the ice cream.

I’ve just received a box of Jeni’s and I want to eat it all right now, but these pints are rock hard. Can I thaw them in the microwave?

No, no, no, for the love of Pete, no. Please don’t. Microwaves ruin the ice cream, and microwaving plastic pint containers totally freaks us out. Just “stage” the pints: place them on a counter or table top and let them rest for 10 minutes or until you can just slightly squeeze the pints.

What is Gravel?

Gravels are salty-sweet toppings that we make from scratch in our kitchen. We sell them online and in our shops. You can eat them by themselves, but we created them specifically to accompany our ice creams and sauces in sundaes.

Are your containers BPA free?

Yes!

I want to order a collection, but can I substitute a flavor?

If you’re allergic to an ingredient in a flavor in any collection, just call us and we’ll be happy to accommodate you: (614) 488-3224. Please note: some limited edition flavors are available only as part of a special collection and cannot not be substituted.

Shipping FAQs

How do you ship ice cream?

We pack our  frozen goods in an insulated shipping box with enough dry ice to keep the contents perfectly frozen well into the evening of the delivery date. It gets colder inside that box that it does in your freezer: -109.3°F.

How much does shipping cost?

We offer flat rate shipping —you can order as much as you like and pay the same price—starting at $13, based on the shipping destination of your order, as well as Priority Overnight.

You can find our shipping costs here.

Where all can you ship? Do you deliver to the West Coast?

We ship to all 50 United States and the District of Columbia, via FedEx.

We do not ship internationally at this time, sorry.

Why does it cost more to ship to certain parts of the country?

Since we ship our frozen goods on dry ice, they need to arrive within 48 hours to ensure safe delivery. Depending on the shipping destination of an order, sometimes we can send the shipment via Ground delivery and it’ll get there in time. If we can’t ship it via Ground delivery, it has to go by Air, which costs more.

Which days of the week can your ice cream be delivered?

Our ice cream can be delivered every day of the week except for Sunday and Monday, though not all shipping destinations are eligible for Saturday delivery.

Is there a minimum order?

There’s no minimum order. But, remember, with our flat rate shipping you can order as much as you like and pay the same price to ship whether it’s two pints or 20.

Where do you ship from?

Our home office, kitchen, bakery, and fulfillment center are located in Columbus, Ohio.
