1) LEBRON’S RETURN TO CLEVELAND

Hoo, boy! How ’bout that HYPE! Was a mortal man resurrected from the dead? Nope, but a certain gazillionaire ballplayer did return his talents to Cleveland.

Despite the mega hoopla, it was impossible not to get into rekindled love story of LeBron James and Cleveland—even if James’ first game as a Cavalier since 2010 didn’t exactly follow the narrative: Knicks 95, Cavs 90; Lebron: 8 turnovers.

3) THIS STORYCORPS STORY OF REDEMPTION

Darius Clark Monroe was a high school honor student, but just after his 16th birthday, he robbed a bank at gunpoint with two of his friends. Monroe served five years in prison. He recently talked with David Ned, a customer who was in the bank during the robbery.

“When I got out, I wanted to apologize to the people who were inside the bank,” Monroe tells Ned. “When I spoke to you, it was the first time I truly got to understand the seriousness of what I did.”

4) ALL YOU EVER NEED TO KNOW ABOUT COOKING EGGS

J. Kenji López-Alt, author of The Truth About Hard-Boiled Eggs, says, “The number of eggs I’ve boiled over the last several years in carefully controlled circumstances numbers well into the thousands.

The former line cook/current Managing Culinary Director at Serious Eats, boils eggs this way: “Lower your eggs straight from the fridge into already-boiling water, or place them in a steamer insert in a covered pot steaming at full blast on the stovetop. If boiling, lower the heat to the barest simmer. Cook the eggs for 11 minutes for hard or 6 minutes for soft. Serve. Or, if serving cold, shock them in ice water immediately. Let them chill in that water for at least 15 minutes, or better yet, in the fridge overnight. Peel under cool running water. No baking, no pricking, no tricks, no gimmicks, that’s it.”

He also eggsplains explains a lot more about eggs in this enlightening report from The Food Lab, López-Alt’s/Serious Eats’ James Beard Award-nominated column.
