1) NIKKI LANE’S VOICE

Doesn’t matter if she’s using it to sing:

Or speak. Thanks to Vans and documentarian Jared Eberhardt—who also directed Lane’s Gone, Gone Gone video—for this:

2) APPLE SEASON

Ah, the first week of Fall. For some, it’s sweater season.

For us, it’s high time for crispy, crunchy, juicy apples that obliterate the taste in our mouths from the off-season’s shiny, mealy Red Delicious fruit basket apples.

But it’s also time to enjoy the forbidden fruit in hard cider form. Saveur knows what’s up. Check out their tasting notes for more than a dozen bottles, including Anthem, by Salem, Oregon’s Wandering Aengus Ciderworks:

3) CHAMPAGNE FRIED CHICKEN

In Columbus of late, we’ve been on a serious Hot Chicken Takeover bender. Our deep Champagne Fried Chicken phase may be next.

Here’s our favorite recipe of the week, courtesy of a Gourmet mag from 1970 (Jeni has a respectable Gourmet library in her office):

4) THE DAILY SPOON

The Daily Spoon, the Daily Spoon, Norwegian designer Stian Korntved Ruud’s new project, is exactly what the project’s name suggests: making one wooden spoon every day for a year. Thanks, Food Republic, for turning us on to this beautiful exercise.

5) MALKOVICH’S FACE

We’d have to consult an anthropologist about the science of why John Malkovich’s mug slides so seamlessly into so many famous works of art. In the meantime, photographer Sandro Miller lets the pictures do the talking in Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich: Homage to Photographic Masters.
