Baked Apples with Churro Ice Cream

You might think of baked apples as a très facile dessert for beginners (which would be true), but we prefer to think of baked apples as a legendarily minimalist, classic-American dish. You can serve them with any full-bodied ice cream—our Churro fits the bill.

Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 20 minutes
Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Pink Lady apples (1 per person)*
   Per apple:
       2 tbsp brown sugar
       1 tbsp salted butter

Wash the apples. From the top down, core apples, being sure not to break through the bottom of the apple. This will serve as the vessel for the sugar and butter.

Place brown sugar in the center of the apple and top with butter

Place apples in a 9” x 13” pan and bake for 20 minutes at 350°F.

*Pink Lady apples are a good choice because, in addition to being great for baking, they’re cute-looking. Any fibrous apple will work, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
