Chicago friends, we’re hosting an opening party at our new Lincoln Park scoop shop—Jeni’s Armitage—on Friday, Dec 16, at 7 pm.
Our third Chicago location will be just off the Brown Line at 900 W Armitage Ave. Here you’ll find the traditional Jeni’s experience—friendly service inside a welcoming space—but with a slight twist: we’re sharing space with Foxtrot, the curated online and brick-and-mortar grocer.
Our partnership with Foxtrot also means extended morning hours (we’ll be opening at 7 am during the week and 8 am on the weekends). So, in addition to serving exceptional ice creams throughout the day, we’re going to be featuring something new: Jeni Britton Bauer’s Iron Born, Feather Light waffles.
These are Jeni’s waffles, inspired by a very old American recipe (Fannie Farmer’s from the 1896 Boston Cooking-School Cook Book), modded and tweaked in her kitchens over years. Being yeast raised and allowed to rise overnight, they have all the featherlight air and savory flavor that comes with time. And then we bake them on a very hot iron which produces a cruller-like interior. At the scoop shop, you’ll find our waffles glazed (vanilla bean or salted maple) and wrapped in paper, perfect to walk and eat. We call them Street Waffles.
Ice cream will be free for everyone (!) at the opening night party and the first 50 people in line will also get a Street Waffle and swag bag. Note: Waffles will not be available for purchase on Friday night. If you want one, you’ll need to be one of the first 50 (or come back when we open the next morning at 8 am).
