Hey Celia, can you do the a-frame?

Jeni's Ambassador

Meet Celia Oberholzer, an Ambassador Team Leader who splits her time between our Bexley and Grandview scoop shops in Columbus. Our ambassadors are some of the most talented people on #teamjenis, but we noticed Celia’s artistic handiwork when she tagged us on her Instagram account, @heyceliacanyoudotheaframe. Her feed is filled with meticulously drawn a-frames—two-sided sidewalk boards that boast the latest and greatest flavors outside of our scoop shops. Celia started the account in June to showcase her chalk skills and give a behind-the-scenes look into what it’s like to work at Jeni’s. In one of her inaugural captions she talks about a menu rewrite and the opportunity it gave her to explore, improvise, and make the pieces her own.

Here are some of Celia’s most fanciful creations:

Celia stopped by the Jeni’s HQ to film this fun time-lapse and answer a few questions.

You work with us as a team leader. What do you do at work?

I scoop ice cream, interact with customers, and manage shifts!

Maybe people would like to know why scoop shop employees are called ambassadors.

We’re called ambassadors because we’re constantly having conversations with customers about the brand, the company, and the ice cream. It goes beyond just scooping ice cream and that’s an aspect I really like.

How long have you worked at Jeni’s?

I was hired in December of 2017. I started off with all the 2017 holiday flavors so it’s almost been a year.

Full circle! Congratulations. What was your job before this?

I was an anti-money laundering investigator. That was my full-time job.

I am impressed and little intimidated. What’s your experience with design?

My parents are both architects. I have a lot of memories from drawing on all their scrap paper when they took me to their offices. It was always a passion of mine but I got a psychology degree in college. I’m realizing that it’s still something that I’d like to do and it’s nice to be able to do it informally but gain professional experience at Jeni’s.

Besides wanting to show off your mad chalk skills, why did you start your @heyceliacanyoudotheaframe Instagram account?

Customers will see me working on stuff and it’s cool to tell them about it. It’s not something people walking into the shop really think about but a big value to the company is hand-making things, art and design, and putting your heart and soul into what you do.

We have to ask, what’s your favorite flavor?

Easily Lemon Buttermilk Frozen Yogurt.

That’s Jeni’s favorite flavor, too! Do you have a favorite pattern?

Love hexagons. I especially love hexagons that are made out of three diamonds. I really love a good honeycomb pattern.

Who doesn’t! Who would you most like to meet right now?

Mary Oliver, she’s one of my favorite poets.

And a fellow Ohioan! Cool. What piece of culture would you send into space for aliens to have?

Every season of Bob’s Burgers.

Do you have a favorite playlist right now?

I’ve been obsessed with King Princess’ EP.

Describe yourself in one word.

Hmm … expressive! *waves hands around*
