Man, Charlotte. What can we say? We swung open the doors to our South End shop last week and you showed up in a huge way. For four hours at our grand opening, the line never slowed down, as you all—er, we mean, ya’ll—queued patiently down and around the block.
And we know it wasn’t just about free ice cream or getting to meet Jeni. It’s about making new friends and coming together as a community over ice cream.
A few memorable moments from our grand opening: Jeni being asked to sign a stapler (we have to say, that’s a first!). Meeting a couple who took their wedding photos at a scoop shop (we love you, too). And getting to serve the Jeni’s superfan who drove 4½ hours from Knoxville, Tennessee, just to celebrate with us.
These ladies more than earned their spot at the top of the line—they started the hashtag #JenistoCLT more than a year ago.
We design our shops to be community gathering spaces. And though our South End jewel-box shop at Design Center isn’t our biggest (941-square-feet to be exact), you better believe we crammed in every seat and resting spot we could so that you can come in, take a load off, and get to know someone better over an ice cream cone. The indoor/outdoor bar seating with retractable windows is a nice touch, right?
The shop itself has the usual traditional Jeni’s trimmings, including hexagonal flooring and oak accents that pay homage to our very first shop designs, which pull inspiration from old school dairies.
Charlotte, thank you for all the love. We know it’s just the beginning of a very beautiful friendship.
