Plants for Pints

With Earth Day on the horizon, we’re proud to announce Plants for Pints, a brand new partnership with four central Ohio markets and the sustainable living organization Green Columbus.

Customers who buy a pint of Jeni’s or make a donation to Green Columbus in one of four central Ohio markets will receive a complimentary organic potted herb in an upcycled Jeni’s pint container.

Green Columbus will use donations to support beautification projects throughout the year in central Ohio. Money will go toward the purchase of trees, mulch, shovels, wheelbarrows, and other items needed for worksites.

Sixteen-hundred organic herb seedlings—potted by Jeni’s employees and Swainway Urban Farm, which grows organic crops on three properties in Clintonville—will be distributed among the four stores. (They’re already at Whole Foods!) The herbs include lavender, mint, rosemary, and thyme, which are all herbs used in Jeni’s Wildberry Lavender, Backyard Mint, and Yazoo Sue with Rosemary Bar Nuts ice creams.

In keeping with Jeni’s commitment to making the most of the ingredients used in their ice creams, the 1,600 plants were potted using Zoo Brew, a compost derived of fruit and vegetable scraps from Jeni’s kitchen and the Columbus Zoo’s bedding waste. (Eartha Limited and Price Farms Organics are responsible for creating Zoo Brew.)
